Astronautics’ Badger integrated flight display system modernizes flight deck to all-glass cockpit with enhanced functionality and systems integration

SINGAPORE –FEBRUARY 15, 2022 – Astronautics Corporation of America’s full cockpit avionics modernization of a second L-100 transport aircraft for the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) has completed flight testing and the aircraft has been accepted by the FAP for entry into service as part of its Avionics Modernization Program (AMP).

As the prime contractor for the FAP AMP, Astronautics has updated the L-100 with its Badger integrated flight display system, providing an integrated glass cockpit designed to maximize crew situational awareness with digital interfaces and displays, enhanced functionality, and additional safety features which provide information such as traffic, terrain, and weather.  Astronautics’ Badger integrated flight display system can enable its Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS)/ Night Vision Goggles (NVG) capability, depending on customer requirements.

The Badger integrated flight display system includes six 6×8-inch LCD electronic flight instruments/engine instruments and caution advisory system displays with dual engine data concentrator units.

As part of the AMP, Astronautics also led the systems integration of the displays, flight management system, global positioning system, and autopilot/flight director along with a complete suite of navigation and communication radios.

Astronautics further supported the FAP with in-country installation labor, pilot and technician training, and program architecture and documentation.

“This follow-on order from the FAP confirms their confidence in Astronautics’ proven experience with complete C-130 cockpit modernizations—providing a reliable, affordable solution that enhances situational awareness and safety for their fleet,” said Astronautics’ Jim Jackalone, vice president, sales & business development.  “The integrated, all-glass upgrade provides capability and longevity for the FAP L-100 fleet for years to come.”

The L-100 is a civil version of the C-130.  Astronautics has been the AMP prime contractor for both the Peruvian and Brazilian Air Force L-100/C-130 transport aircraft, and the Badger displays system provider for C-130 upgrade programs for Chile, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.
